The FIDH 7-minute video Bitter Winter in Belarus denounces the violent repression exercised by the Belarus authorities against all the dissident voices that have protested against the rigging of the December 19, 2010 presidential elections.

Azimjan Askarov's name, as a human rights defender, who was accused in June events in the south last year and who was imprisoned for lifely term, is well known to the world. International human rights organizations, heads of European countries have been amptly watching his fate during this year.

The Selection Committee has started the selection of films of the international Competition. More than 40 films from USA, England, South Africa, Germany, Canada, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Serbia and other countries have been presented for the moment.

The “Bir Duyno” IFF, is probably the most successful film festival in Kyrgyzstan. The content of this festival is of rich, serious documentary film character, the perception of which needs certain efforts of the viewers.

The management of the V. International Film Festival (IFF) of Human Rights documentary films welcomes all of his friends, admirers, partners, comrades and participants! We are glad to announce the beginning of the selection process of the fifth IFF of human rights documentary films “Bir Duyno”. The deadline for applications is the 10th of June 2011.

Hollywood actor Martin Sheen has released a video clip, where he calls on viewers to appeal for the release of human rights defender Azimzhan Askarov, who was arrested on suspicion of murdering a policeman during the June events in southern Kyrgyzstan. Press secretary of the Supreme Court said that "only the court" may decide the fate of Askarov.

17 March 2011.In Prague in the Lucerna theater took place closing ceremony of 13 festival of documentary films on human rights «One World», conducted by the Czech Organization «People in Need». Festival «One World», held under the auspices of former Czech President V. Havel, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Culture of Czech Republic, as well as the mayor of Prague, «One World», is the biggest Human rights festival in the world.

8 March 2011. In Prague in the Church "St. Anna" held an opening ceremony of the annual festival of documentary films on human rights «One World», conducted by the Czech organization «One World» and «People in Need».At the opening of the festival, with a welcome address by the head of «One World» Hana Kulhankova, who reported that in 2011, within 10 days of the festival in 4 demonstration centers will screen 104 films from 40 countries worldwide.

The Homo Homini Award will be accepted by representatives of the Kyrgyz political prisoner, Azimjan Askarov at the opening ceremony of the Festival.People in Need presents the Homo Homini Award annually to exceptional individuals who have made a significant contribution to promotion of human rights and democracy. The 2010 award goes out to the Kyrgyz activist, Azimjan Askarov, for his continued work in human right defense.

The Ministry of Education and Science has signed memorandum of cooperation according to which the teachers in Kyrgyzstan will be included in the festival organizing committee to participate in the organization of the festival screenings at schools and universities. The festival will train the teachers at the workshops, will provide films for screenings and will issue handbook for the hits and discussion with audience of festival
